Trade, Clearing and Settlement

Day Trading (T+0) is allowed for Hong Kong Stocks Market. Shares bought on T day can only be sold on the same day
Clearing services to transactions in securities are managed by Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited (HKSCC). Securities is settled on the same day on T+2 days (Trade Date + 2 working days)

Volatility Control Mechanism (VCM)

There is no restrictions on abrupt and drastic price movement for Hong Kong Stock Market. Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) rolled out its Volatility Control Mechanism (VCM) – a measure designed to protect market integrity by preventing extreme price volatility arising from major trading errors and other unusual incidents – in its securities market on 22 August 2016.

An attempt to trade a security at a price more than 10 per cent away from its last traded price 5 minutes ago will trigger a cooling-off period of 5 minutes where trading of the security can continue but within a band. Trading will continue after 5-minute cooling-off period.

VCM applies in the Hang Seng Index, Hang Seng China Enterprises Index Futures and related contracts during the trading sessions. Cooling-off period does not apply in the first 15 minutes of the morning and afternoon trading sessions and the last 15 minutes of the afternoon session.
